[You may have noticed a small child running around Luceti the past couple days. Vash has discovered the best way to cope with missing Rem and Knives is to run around all of Luceti and watching all the people. He climbed the fountain, tried out every sitting place he could find, and built a snowman or two around the plaza. He’ll be visiting the clothing store when his winter gear gets too wet. He’ll grow rather starry-eyed as he visit’s the item stop and sees all the fun things in there. The bakery he’s found is full of yummy food!

He’ll even visit Good Spirits at some point today. A lot of people seem to like going in there for some reason. Of course, it doesn’t look too exciting once he gets in there, but he’ll stay for a bit. Not even some of the community buildings are safe. When he needs to warm up for a bit he pops right in. So maybe there’s an unfamiliar child standing in your shared kitchen.

Later he’ll also go running around in the forest. He loves all the trees. And no, he still hasn’t learned his lesson about not climbing them. He just HAD to see if there were any eggs in that nest above his head! Of course there weren’t any, but maybe your character will hear a child crying about being stuck in a tree. Again.

Of course all this running around will leave a child tired. When he’s finally too tired to move and thoughts of Rem and Knives come flooding back he tries to distract himself by talking into that book he was given.]

So… um… time really stands still back home? So, I won’t miss anything? I can bring things back with me, right? [He reaches into his coat pocket and feels the package of seeds Miyabi gave him, but while he thinks of that another idea strikes him.] What would you give someone for their birthday?

(OOC: Last chance to run into tiny!Vash as he’s growing up later tonight!)

[Soul will be walking through the forest, he's not really a nature person, but he's listening for Kipinn, some spirit voice that started talking to him a while back. He'd discovered he could hear him better as he went further into the forest and towards the mountains. But instead he hears the sound of Vash messing around in the trees and stops, looking around for the source.]

Hellooooooo! Hello! Is anyone out there?! Help! I'm stuck! [Indeed he is. A couple feet up and sitting on a branch next to a bird's nest.]

[Soul glances up and spots the kid. Dammit... what is with him and finding little kids out in the forest? Well at least this one is dressed warmly.]

Stuck, huh? [He fails to see how getting down from that height is a problem. But he examines the tree branches anyway to see how the kid can get down.] What's your name?

[He starts to look down towards the ground to see who's speaking to him, but one glimpse towards the ground and he quickly ducks his head back towards the tree truck and tightens his grip.] V-V- It's Vash.

... [Oh that's just great. Another one he know should be an adult... interestingly, this is the first in-person encounter he's had with Vash.]

Hey Vash. I'm Soul. [He steps far enough away from the tree so Vash can see him without looking straight down.]

H-hello.

[...]

...I'm stuck.

Yeah...

I noticed.

... [Paaaauuuuuuusssseeeee.]

I... guess I'll help you down, then.

...how? [He's hopeful, but you don't look like you have a ladder in your back pocket.

[Soul walks over to the base of the tree again, judging the distance. Then he sighs. Man, you were a wimp as a kid, Stickbottom.]

Jump and I'll catch you.

[Peeks his head out from the tree trunk.] Sure?

[Soul nods and removes his hands from their pockets, holding them out.]

Whenever you're ready.

O-okay. [Oh, so carefully and slowly he moves.] Okay. Here I go. [He shuts his eyes before slowly pushing himself off the branch.]

[When Vash comes off the brance, Soul catches him round the waist, but somewhat misjudged how much Vash weighed and stumbles backwards, but luckily does not drop him and sets him down on his feet.]

[AH! Stumbling! Vash makes a nervous noise and tries to cling to you for dear life as you stumble.]

[Soul lets out a breath and looks down at Vash clinging to him. He looks to the side awkwardly.]

Uh... You're fine Vash. You can let go of me now...

[He slowly opens his eye before slowly letting you go and laughing relieved and happy.] Thank-you, Soul!

[He shoves his hands back in his pockets.] Don't mention it.

... What were you doing up there, anyway?

[He points up at a nest on the branch he was stuck on.] I wanted to see if there were any eggs in it.

[He looks over at where Vash pointed to.]

Heh... Was it worth it?

No, it only had snow in it.

[Rydia will be at the clothing store, picking up more clothing for New Feathers, when she notices a certain familiar face. Perking up, she smiles warmly at him.]

Hello again!

Oh! Hello! [He smiles, feeling much better today - thinking he'll be able to save everyone back home.] It's nice to see you again!

It's nice to see you, too!

[She looks him over.]

How are you doing today? Staying warm, I hope?

[The gloves he's starting to take off are dripping wet, but he's being smart and came in here to get new ones!]

I'm doing better, and yes, I'm making sure to stay warm.

[She smiles brightly.]

You're welcome. And if you ever want to visit, feel free...or say hello at the Welcome Center. I'm going to be there a lot for a while. There will be plenty of cocoa on hand, too.

[She nods sagely.]

I could always use a helping hand, especially to make sure the cocoa is just right. Care to be my taste-tester?

[She picks up her pile of warm clothing/blankets again.]

I'd better get these over to the Center. They'll probably be needed soon.

I can help you carry them!

Alright! Hm...why don't you take these blankets from me?

[She tries to separate them from the rest of her pile, so he can snag them.]

Okay! [He takes them carefully, then looks up with a beaming smile. Look! Look how well he's helping! Isn't he doing a good job, helping?! 8D!!!]

[D'awww, so cute. She'll be sue to add extra marshmallows, just for him.]

[He'll even try to run ahead and push the door open for you!]

I didn't know ya could take things back home with you! Where'd ya hear that from?

Wouldn't it be weird though, if ya went home and you were holdin' something that ya didn't have before and you couldn't remember how ya got it?

Exactly, that's his path. One thing I've learned bein' in this place, is that even people ya thought you knew can have experienced things differently ta you. A million timelines crossed a thousand worlds. Just because Rem is dead fer him doesn't mean they are fer you.

Loud noises don't scare wolves away when they're pinned their prey like that.

[He just makes an unhappy noise. Someone suddenly doesn't really like talking to you.]

Hm? Oh, right... Well ya see, the Vash I know is slightly older than you, he believes in that love and peace stuff like a stubborn brick too. Wish I could believe in somethin' like that, but I don't have a choice.

You shouldn't LIKE to fight! You can be strong and protect the people you care about WITHOUT killing!

I envy that about you, ya believe in somethin' good. If everyone thought the way you did, then yeah the world would be a better place. But it ain't easy to change the minds of an entire species, and then some.

That's why Rem says we have to be an example. We need to teach and show people how to get along. That way they'll show other people we can't show.

An example, huh. [He thinks quite hard about that, is it too late for someone like him to change? Should he bother trying to change here? He'd rather be able to fight, it helps this dead man feel alive. Maybe it'd be best not to mention these things to Vash in the future...]

Then don't let go of that! Keep holdin' onta that belief fer the rest of yer life. Maybe ya can make a difference, who knows.

[Okay, maybe you're not all bad and scary.] I will! I'm going to help Rem create the new world! I'm going to help her make it so everyone can live in peace! [He is so crazy proud of this fact too.]

[Missing crew or not, she's got children to check up on, and is relieved to hear Vash's voice chirping through the book]

Good! I'm going to help Rem and make sure Nicholas is born on a better planet! [He sounds so proud of himself. He's always wanted to help Rem and what better way than to make sure they don't crash?] And I can't wait to see what these seeds are going to turn into!

[But wait, before he gets over excited by that.]

...are you okay, Sanji?

[No Vash; you can't change the future like that. But that's not a good topic for any time. Sanji just nods and decides that for once, talking about herself is the safer choice]

Yeah, I'm doing okay. [A small smile] Just tired.

...I'm sorry you're lonely. [He wishes he could fix it.] But, it's okay, I was told that even if you're far apart and can't see each other, you'll always be friends.

It's true. And I know they're gonna be waiting for me when I get home. [Now if only Luceti would stop jerking them around]

[A quick, quiet ache ricochets in her chest, that only dulls once she gets over the shock of hearing that name, and knowing the person isn't waiting at the house or the item shop]

He's right. We have more water than land, and most of us come from islands.

It's more than just that! We've all got our reasons to sail... dreams we wanna see come true.

To find the All Blue! [Just speaking about it sparks some childish delight in her] A place where every type of fish, from all the four Blues, come together! It's a chef's paradise.

Why aren't they all in the same place already? [He doesn't understand oceans.]

West Blue, North Blue, South Blue, and East Blue are all different regions with their own types of fish, and you rarely see them intermingle.

Oh, but All Blue they can get together? That sounds really cool!

... it's scary isn't it? Both to be up there and wondering 'Can I really do this?' 'Am I going to fall? Fail?'. I would find it scary at your age. Am I right?

As we grow older, we come face to face with lots of scary things. Like that tree. Sometimes through our own choices. Sometimes unwittingly. We don't have a choice in that, young man.

Do you know what we do have a choice in?

[He nods, not afraid or ashamed in the least to admit that he's scared.]

What? What is it?

How we decide to face those things. There's no shame in being scared. Being scared can be a good thing. But letting fear rule us is not. It stops us from doing what is right. It stops us from going for what we want. And it stops us from protecting what and whom we care for.

Things can be very scary. And facing them can be very hard. But for the important things you have to do it. Because they don't go away otherwise.

Like that tree.

Oh... [He should have known it would come back to this tree!] It's hard to get down. I'll fall!

... but, I don't think you will. You have what it takes to get down yourself, even if you may not believe it yourself.

Okay. [He trusts you.

He shows this trust by grabbing onto the trunk and slowly trying to work his way down. His first problem though is he can't get a good foot hold. He's just a bare inch away of touching his foot down on one, but he can't find it with his groping toes and he's too scared to look down and look.

After a few attempt to find a foothold and safely get down, he freezes up and clings to the tree.] I can't! I'm too high!

You can. [The tone is quiet but firm, cutting through fear and indecision like a hot blade through butter. Compelling. This is the Captain's voice; the voice his crew hear when the shit strikes the fan and panic sets in. The one that restores resolve.

The butt of his scabbard pushes up that branch to brush at the boy's toes. See? Not as far as you thought.]

Remember. If you fall, I'll catch you.

[There's nothing here to fear, young man. You have that safety net.

Okay. [You seem so sure and he trusts you to catch him so he tries again. OH! There's that branch! He slowly puts more and more of his weight on it to be sure it will hold his weight. It gets easier from there, he didn't have to try to jump to reach any of the other holds he had used on his way up the tree.

After a bit of careful feeling for foot holds, and one near-miss later, the boy finally jumps down onto solid ground.] I did it! [Did you see that!? Did you?! Did you!? He did it ALL by himself! Well... as far as he knows he did.]

Yes, you did. You should be proud. [Yes. He saw. All by yourself. Ignore that little nudge at the beginning.]

[And he IS proud, but he also knows to give credit where it's due.] Thank you for helping me again.

Not a problem, young man.

... come to think about it, I don't know your name, do I? I can't just keep calling you young man, now, can I?

[He ducks his head in embarrasement.] That I shouldn't climb them. Even if there's something interesting in them.

[Firm nod.] That's right. And what should we do if curiousity seizes us anyway, and we find otherselves treeward?

Um. Find help first?

[Zack is working in Good Spirits today, decked out in his new casual wear thanks to Guy, and since they're not busy he notices Vash coming in.]

Hey, kiddo. Aren't you kinda young to be in here?
