... Well, as far as I'm concerned, my choice is to say it's all fine and dandy, and I for one don't hold a grudge about it. If you want to wallow in self-pity about it, then I guess you could say that is your choice.

I'm just going to say this once though. [Because, really, lecturing people is tiring, but he doesn't want to deal with another episode of this in the far future and so he shall mention it now before it happens again.] If you really want to make it up to people, telling them you're a bad person who can't be forgiven won't do anything. What's past is past, and you can feel awful about it all you want, but it won't change anything. [A pause.] Besides, it's not productive, and it's not helping anyone at all. You just make yourself and the other party feel bad.

Just make sure not to do it again, and we're good. It's the other person's choice if they want or don't want to forgive you, so if you think you should have a choice when you don't, then let them have their choice when they do.
