[Vash has noticed something missing in Luceti lately. That missing something being Nami. He knows she must be physically recovered from her ordeal with Aku by now which means it’s time for… operation get Nami out of her house.]

Hey guys! You said you wanted to meet Rem right? Well, Meryl is at work, but Rem’s free so I figured now would be a great time for her to meet you! But, might be best one at a time. Easier to remember names that way after all! So I think I’ll start with Nami!

I’ll be over in a little bit to pick you up Nami~!

[No really. He means a little bit. He already has your house in sight when he makes this announcement. He’s giving you about ten minutes to respond before he knocks.]

(ooc: ~~Vash will eventually be getting Nami back to his apartment to meet Rem. Even if he has to drag her.~~ But feel free to run into him as he heads to the Straw Hats’ or catch him as he’s standing around waiting to knock on the door. He’ll be looking rather bored by then. ~~Or… if he does have to drag Nami kicking and screaming - feel free to point and laugh.~~ Or our muses both got away from us and now we're not sure where they'll end up! Oh, and this got posted a little late - so takes place more around dinner time.)

Eventually. But that's my choice, isn't it? [She's not sure. Is there any point? She won't say that, but she'll give him another piece of honesty:]

I'm only just recovering, you know - how do you think I'll do in a fight, Vash? [Do you know how many people want to kill her in this town? ...so yes, she isn't ready for this.]

Physically or mentally Nami? Because right now physically... you hit really hard.

[Adrenalin's a bitch, Vash. ~~And so is she.~~ She doesn't say anything else, though, standing rigid on the sidewalk. But she isn't heading for home, either.]

I'm not going to force you to come meet Rem Nami, but I do know she really would like to meet you. We've come this far already, do you think you can go the rest of the way?

I would do everything to stop it. Shoot him in the wings, make for the tunnels, and call for some holy magic over the journals.

Think he'd give you time for that? You don't give him enough credit, Vash. Or the others here. [There's a flicker of a shadow on her face, and she offers him a humourless smile.] Maybe he'd just tear you apart.

Yes, I suppose he could. [That soft smile never leaves his face.] And I suppose Yuber could be there too again to help. There are a lot of bad things that could happen, I'm not going to lie about that. However, if I spent all my time just thinking about all the bad things that could happen, that is out of my control to predict and stop, I'd sure miss a lot more good stuff waiting and worrying for something to happen.

[Oh, you optimistic momma's boy, you. You know where that gets you with Nami, Vash? That gets you a punch to the goddamned face. She's not holding back. She is so fucking tired of that attitude.]

[Vash will casually lean his head back so you just miss him. He's let you hit him enough for his stunt to get you out here. If you're not going to help him understand exactly what you're feeling he's doesn't deserved to be punched for trying.]

[She wasn't actually expecting him to dodge that. It puts her off balance, stumbling forward and catching at his coat for balance. But she's more than willing to fist that in her hands instead, and now she's yelling.] You're missing the point!

[That's okay, he's more than happy to let you do that.] I'm sorry Nami, what is the point?

The point is you're throwing your life away for nothing, Vash! How do you think I feel? [Shaking him now. Or trying; it's Nami, after all. Maybe she's just shaking his coat.] D'you think I want to watch people leap to my defence like that? Maybe you think getting killed is trivial, BUT I DON'T!

[Long. Time. Coming. And he is practically the living embodiment of every fear she has today. Later, she might apologise for the amount of venom laced through the words she's yelling at him. But right now?

She wants him to hurt.]

That for the people coming to your defense that the risk of possibly being killed for that chance they might save you means nothing? Just throwing their life away?

[But now he's doing his best to keep his own composure. He understands what you're feeling more than you think Nami.]

[Of course it doesn't mean nothing. It means the world to her. But--]

[It's okay! Enough already! You don't have to save me, just--]

...I could have saved myself.

[And this is stupid. Because it was all fake, anyway. But she can't stop seeing it.]

[Not going to say anything right now, but his arms do come around in a hug.]

[She could have. Gave brief enough contemplation to the idea when it was clear what Aku was aiming for; if she died in his cell she'd revive somewhere else, free of his influence. But that was cheap and she'd been ashamed for even thinking of it - life was precious. Better to hold on because it was only a matter of time before the crew came through that door to get her out of there. Better to hold on because she'd never have forgiven herself for it, even if the crew eventually did.

And then they did arrive. And Aku killed them. In front of her. And it was all a show, but she was left there to think maybe she'd made the wrong choice after all. And in Luceti they'd revive in a week and come back for her again, but if they didn't survive the first time--

--she watched them die. And relived it over and over again in the dark. Her fault, Vash. And if she isn't capable of defending herself against constant attack in Luceti, then why should she allow herself to put them in that position at all?]

Hugs are dangerous things, Vash. She hasn't cried since her return. And now he's making it impossible not to, because rage and adrenalin ultimately tide over into emotion of an entirely different kind.

And you're a pain in the ass. If she had to start breaking down like this, it would have been nice not to have been in the middle of the street.]

It's okay Nami... [Is it okay? He has no idea what she went through with Aku, but he couldn't just watch as she hid away from the world.] ...you don't have to talk to me about anything. [There are people closer to you for that.]

[It's not okay. There's a biting, sarcastic retort to that buried under the tears somewhere. Still want her to go visit Rem? She's not going to be all that presentable. Just ...give her a while.]

[Yes, eventually, but for now it was mostly an excuse to get you out of hiding. He's happy to just hold her for as long as she needs.]
