[Vash has been walking out in the woods more so than normal the past few days. Keeping his eyes open for a certain short insurance girl as he walks. Although he's disappointed once again in his search his eyes have noticed something else in the woods today. So amazing that he can't help but to talk out loud to himself.]

Huh, the trees are already starting to change color again? I guess that means it's almost time for fall again. Time sure does fly sometimes.

[Speaking of time flying, that reminds him of something. So he pulls his journal out of his pocket and makes a voice recording.]

Hey there everyone! I have a very important announcement today! It's Milly's birthday on the 24th so make sure to wish her a happy one then! Oh, and she likes pudding, so I'm sure she'd love it if you happen to stop by with some. [Poor Milly, her best friend is missing and her boyfriend is too young to really remember her for her birthday.] She could use some cheering up, so please try to remember.

[And to keep his thoughts from being too sad.]

And if you just so happen to bring some donuts by with you if you visit that would be great too!

[With that said Vash will wander the forest for a little while longer before he gives up the search for the day. He has a few places to go today. Like hitting Seventh Heaven for some lunch. From there he'll visit the flower shop and bakery before hitting the grocery shop to pick up groceries on his way home. Later that night when little kids should be in bed he'll make a stop to Good Spirits.]

That most adults think they're so great, and hurt lots of people smaller than them.

Well, I'm not going to be that kind of adult. And you're not going to be either, right?

No. [He sounds pretty sure of himself, there.] I'd rather die than be some stupid bully, who hurts people for fun. I'd only hurt the people who deserve it.

But how will you know if they really deserve it?

That depends on what happens, doesn't it? I won't know how until I meet them and know what they did.... But I've met lots of people who deserved to die, before.

But you'd never have the full story. People may make the wrong choices now and then, but shouldn't they have a second chance?

I mean, if you saw a man robbing a bank, he has a gun, but he hasn't shot anyone yet.But what you'd never know is he has a sick kid at home and he doesn't have the money for the care his child needs to live. He shouldn't rob a bank, but should he die for that?

Can it, already. I know stuff happens like that.

Some people get second chances, and still do things people shouldn't be capable a'doing.

It's gonna be my job to make sure they know what a mistake that was.

[Did you like the coldness of his tone? Because it's not about to change.]

[Vash hears it and it hurts, because he knows that you're going to grow up with that voice no matter what he does.]

No one has the right to take the life of another. It is no one's job to kill.

It'll be my job. [Quiet. Thoughtful.] It's what I'm good at.

But I'm sure you're good at much better things!

That's not going to change my mind. I'm going to get stronger, and better at shooting, and I'm going to be someone who can take care of myself and anyone who needs help.

I don't care what it takes. I'm gonna do it. I already don't have anything, so I don't have anything to lose.

That's fine. It's noble to want to get stronger to protect people, but you should do it in a way that you don't have to take anyone's life.

And you do have something to lose. You have a lot to lose.

That's not how life works.

[He clenches a fist. This guy, he doesn't get it. He doesn't get it at all! A little Vash should think that way, but this long later? No, it's not right. It's not how the world works!]

Besides, I've already killed someone. And he deserved it.

And I'd do it again!

Life can work that way if we give it a chance. It may take a little time, but if we're willing to work at it and be the start it can happen.

And even if you have killed someone, that's not an excuse to keep killing. Instead try to find a way so everyone can find a way to live and peace and learn from that mistake instead.

There are evil people, stupid. People that're not gonna change, just 'cause you wish they could. Sometimes people lose their right to be called a person.

Everyone can change.

Yeah? Am I s'pposed to wait until they kill me, to see if they changed any by then?

[... He looks down at his hand, calloused roughly.]

It's kill or be killed.

No, that's not the only way. There's also life. I'm not telling you that you should let someone kill you. The very opposite. I'm saying that you should live your life to the fullest, to protect those you care about, but to do it without ending anyone else's life.

Everyone's ticket to the future is blank. No one has the right to steal that away from someone.

Some people lose the right. They lose that right to keep it...

You're just afraid of death. You can't face it. I've already been told about people like you.

I'm not afraid of death. There is nothing wrong with dying after someone has lived a long and fulfilling life. It makes me very sad to think that I won't be able to see them again for a very long time, but there is nothing wrong with a natural death.

But it is wrong for someone else to take that gift and that right away from someone. No one ever loses the right to live their life. They just need to be shown a new way to a clearer future.

[He glares at the journal at that, reaching up to snap it shut.]

Some people are monsters, and you're gonna have to learn that sooner or later.

And sometimes we gotta be the devil if we're gonna protect what deserves to live.

[Oh, there goes the journal, closing with a vehement snap.]

[Oh, Wolfwood. He knew there'd really be no point in arguing this with you, he knows how it all ends. It still hurts to hear someone so young talk this way and to know that there are so many more like you waiting back on Gunsmoke.

He's so sorry it taken him so long to make you a better world to live in. Too late even.]
