That's right. Most of the plants we find seem to be easily traced back there, so it seemed the logical start place.

[There's quite a bit of flipping to do; it is a large book after all.] Aha. Here we are.

"Dionaea muscipula, or better known as 'The Venus Flytrap', is a carnivorous plant that catches and digests animal prey."

Interesting. The plants I've usually seen of this nature were far larger. This one actually can be cultivated as a house plant.

Insects.

Apparently the leaves will close once the 'trap' is sprung.

[She's still studying the book.] They need clean water, a lot of sunlight, and unfertilized soil. It doesn't necessarily need the insects to survive, though it will keep the plant healthy, but only once every couple of months, if kept indoors.

No, not exactly. [It's not as if it's mandatory to be fed. And given the amount of bugs likely to be attracted to the shop during the summer months, not to mention pollination needs, the problem can solve itself.] When the trap is closed, the closed leaves simulate what would happen in a normal stomach for the digestive process. But it can only eat small insects, if anything at all--anything else would kill it.
