[Those who know Vash may have been noticing slight differences about him the past week to two weeks. He's not around as much, taking longer and longer walks through the forest. Visiting the spot where he once fought Wolfwood and Legato more and more.

Today he leaves his house extra early and spends most of the day at that spot. He has his journal and will answer it if someone wants to get a hold of him, but will not be using it himself. He'll return to the village later in the evening and finds a quiet place to sit at Good Spirits with a bottle of cheap whiskey.]

There's so much life in this place... and yet... [No one knows the terrible things I've done.]

[He'll be there until the place looks like it's about to close up before stumbling his way back home. It's on his way that he takes his journal out and speaks into it with the slightest slur to his voice.]

[Voice]

On this day, back home... the city of July was destroyed. I know - I know you all couldn't know the people there. I just, I just don't want them to ever be forgotten and how they lost everything in a single moment. [He stops speaking for a moment. His voice breaking as tears start to fall from his eyes.] And I'm so sorry.

Exactly. That's one of the most basic human desires. To want to have others around. A comrade, a friend... can be pretty helpful.

Thanks. My old friends... they're gone now. But it's always pretty swell to find new ones. [He claps a hand on Vash's shoulder.]

[That does help get Vash to smile a bit.] I'm sorry, that your friends aren't here with you.

Thanks. But I still got some friends that I met later. They're here at least. So I'm not so lonely.

That's good. Being lonely is a hard thing to face. I hate being alone.

Then why were you alone just now?

Because... tonight, I feel as I should be alone.

Never know with these things. That message made me think you needed a comrade to talk to. [Pause] Since you must have either a guilt complex or blood on your hands.

[Try both.] I don't want them to be forgotten. They deserve that at least. To be remembered.

That's very noble of you. I'd want the same for my old friends, too. [Especially since he knew what it was like to literally forget them.] Their own government made sure that they died in obscurity.

Really? That's awful. No one should be forgotten.

[He gives a sympathetic nod in agreement.]

The real monsters should be.

Maybe, but sometimes... monsters aren't really monsters when all you need is a closer look.

Of course. The real monsters are the ones who are rotten on the inside, who get the glory after they manipulate the people who are seen as monsters, who are left to be hated or forgotten. I guess that's why I came to root for the underdog, to take in outasts.

It's good they have someone they can count on with someone like you. Most people have trouble looking past the rumors.

Thanks. I made it my business to take apart rumors and find the meaty insides.

Well, I hope you're careful too. Some rumors are true after all. [He takes a long swing from the bottle he's carrying.]

[He glances curiously at the drinking before pulling a flask from his pocket and taking his own swig.]

I don't need to be careful. But I can tell a real monster.

Yeah? Some trick to it or something? Or do you have some sort of monster radar?
