[Vash was not happy last night when the droids had snatched him up on his way home last night. At least he hadn't been gone for very long and they had only turned him human for awhile! Only, they turned him into a 133 year old man. At least dropped him off in the village this morning!

If only they had gotten him a walker too. Vash manages to shuffle his way to a bench near the fountain before his energy wears out and he opens up his journal.]

Heh, sorry if I worried anyone back home. I'm back now. So you can stop worrying Amelia-chaaaaan! Hahahaha! [If the Malnosso think they can put him down by making him old they got another thing coming. And yeah, he's not coming right out and saying who he is right now. That would ruin part of the fun!] Think one of you could come down and give me a hand getting home?

Ah, and Winry, if you have a moment could you help me remove my prosthetic arm? It's Vash, the Malnosso decided to age me just a bit and it's a tad too heavy for me right now.

Oh! And Sanji! Do you think you could help out an old man and make a quick delivery? The bakery seems so far away now. These old knees just can't take it!

[And until someone comes to help him home, Vash will be relaxing in that bench enjoying the weather. He'll also take advantage of his old looks to make some cat calls at any pretty girl passing his way.]

Don't you worry about going to fast! I'll be sure to keep up! [Er, maybe. He hates to admit to that slight shake in his legs and the way he can't find the strength to stand fully straight. His back bows as he leans on Vivi for support. He tries to take longer strides then a small shuffle of his feet, but they feel like lead and it tires him too much. He gives up on the strides and just tries to keep up a decent shuffle.]

Heh, sorry. I guess they made me a little older than I thought.

[Vivi doesn't mind at all, carefully matching her speed to his as he slows.]

It's all right. I'd rather you take it slowly and carefully. Let me know if you need a break, too. [Hopefully that won't be necessary, since if he needs to sit, there really isn't anywhere but the ground, and she suspects getting him down and up again may be more exhausting than the walking. At this shuffling pace, it will take a while to reach their destination, but there's no rush.]

[Vash keeps up the pace. Like Vivi a little afraid about how to sit and then having to get up again. Who knew sitting could be such a daunting task? But as they near home and he starts losing his breath again he'll finally speak up.]

I know that we're almost there, but do you think we could stop for a bit at the bridge?

[And that should take care of her other concern, since he can sit or lean against the railing rather than attempting to make it all the way to the ground and back again. He's been quiet as they walked, and when he speaks, she can tell he's more than a little winded. She slows just a little as they make the last few feet to the bridge, concerned. Once they reach the bridge, she helps him settle himself, keeping one hand on his shoulder until she's sure he has his balance on the relatively narrow railing.]

[She stretches, looking out over the sparkling river.] It's a nice day, isn't it? Still, the days will be getting cooler soon. [It's a harmless topic, and one she latches onto to provide Vash a chance to catch his breath.] I do like autumn, though. It's just a lot different than back home. I'm even kind of looking forward to winter. [Though she'd like it a lot better if it were shorter.]

[He leans most of his weight against the rail. Looking out over the water as he catches his breath.] Yeah. I've always liked winter here. Never did get any real change in weather back home. Pretty much just hot weather, and even hotter weather.

[He shuts his eyes. Not really wanting to think of Gunsmoke, but having trouble keeping his mind off of it.] Of course, I think Spring may be my favorite. Watching all the grass start to grow and the flowers bloom.

[Vivi laughs.] Hot weather and even hotter weather? Sounds a lot like Alabasta.

[But that makes her think of Chopper and how much he'd hated the heat. She feels a slight twinge, reminded again that he's no longer here.]

Yeah, I forget. You came from a desert, didn't you? It's not always easy, but it's home.

[She turns to Vash and nods with a somewhat wan smile.] Yes, that's right. [She sighs softly.] I miss it so much sometimes. [But she doesn't want to start going down that road right now.]

...what was your home like, Vash-san?

P-probably a bit like yours. You know, hot and such.

[That non-answer earns him an odd look. She assumed he might enjoy the chance to talk about his home.]

Hot? [Her tone is rather flat.] There must be more to it than that.

It's... very, very sandy? It makes me itchy if it manages to get down my coat!

OH LOOK! There's a duck on the water!

[That ham-handed attempt at changing the subject isn't fooling Vivi, but under the circumstances, she lets it slide--though not without filing it under her mental list of things she needs to talk to Vash about when he's back to normal. It's getting to be a long list.]

[She points.] And there's another, right there. Diving for food, I suppose. [Vivi spares a thought to Carue. The ache of missing him isn't nearly so strong as it once was, but it's still odd not having him around.]

They're kinda cute when they bob up and down like that with their tails in the air.

[Vivi nods, a bit indulgently. She's prepared to let him rest here as long as he needs, and if that means mild small talk, so be it.] Very cute. You know, ducks are one of my favorite animals.

[Nope, no bias here.]

Yeah? I'm not sure what my favorite animal is. [...] It certainly aren't cats who are probably destroying my stuff right now.

[And oh yes, of course Kuroneko and Donut are having LOTS of fun in Vash's room right now. Oh, that picture of him and Rem together? He didn't really need that did he? Either way it's behind the desk now.]

[Vivi gives him a reassuring pat on the arm.] I doubt they're up to anything that bad.
