Canon; Trigun (anime verse): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trigun
Canon Point; End of Episode 25, I also say the movie: Badlands Rumble happens sometimes before this point.
Age; 132
House; Sigyn
Power; Growth
Personality; Vash is a guy who loves life and just wants to have fun! He usually comes off like a goof and a moron, but it's mostly just an act. He can be deadly serious when he needs to be (minus anyone dying) and he has above average intelligence that he's using even when playing dumb.
Vash may be someone who acts as if no wrong is in the world and everything is perfect he is actually a very emotionally scared and frightened man. Every death is one he should have been able to avoid and every hardship is something he should have stopped. Even things that are beyond his control he sees as him having a cause in. Or if not caused at the very least done something that could have stopped it.
To show how upset he is would cause other people pain. He’d prefer the fake smile and silly antics to brighten someone else’s day instead. So on the surface Vash is a donut loving, sharp shooting, fool whose favorite pastime is playing with children. He enjoys drinking but is wise enough to not drink himself into a stupor (even if he acts like he has). As shown in one episode where although he’s tripping all over himself and allows himself to be smacked in the head by his own gun he can still nimbly catch it without looking.
Although Vash is a sharp shooter he’d rather not use his gun. Turning down most bodyguard jobs unless he really needs the money or it’s for a total babe. Total babes always are the exception. The less fights he gets in the less likely he is to hurt anyone. He only ever fires as a last resort. In the very first episode he actually throws his gun at someone rather than shoot him. Vash is an extreme pacifist who likes to see the good in all people. Even putting himself in bodily harm to give people the chance to prove that they can change. Willing to do anything to avoid anyone fighting he’ll forgo any shame or bodily pain. Shown in one episode where he strips naked and barks like a dog to avoid a fight. He doesn’t care what people think of him so long as everyone is safe in the end.
He also loves to flirt with girls, but I believe it’s more because he knows it makes them feel at least a little good that someone thinks they’re nice looking. Most every girl can see though his act and either slap him or tell him off and he’ll cry - but if he actually got a girl to like him I think he’d find himself to be very shy. As shown in another episode where he fakes being passed out drunk when a mayor buys him some hookers. If Vash is going to be with any girl he wants it to be more than just looks. Even if they do have nice boobs. He very much appreciates the beauty of women’s bodies.
Despite all the fun Vash likes to have, he can get annoyed and angry like most everyone else. More so with closer friends that he doesn't need to put up such an act for. There are some personalities that will rub him the wrong way. Although being the pacifist he'll either look the other way, or act weak in order to get out of a confrontation. Generally when Vash does meet up with a person he can't stand he'll simply look the other way and try to avoid them. Unless they are a danger to anyone. Then he'll find some excuse to keep an eye out to make sure they don't cause too much trouble. He's also been known to give a lecture on love and peace every so often.
Of course, as much as he'd love to, he can't act his way out of all situations. When Vash gets serious, he gets deadly serious. Minus the deadly part; as he won't kill for anything. If he can he'd rather run from a fight, but if there are other people in trouble he'd stay and fight until the bitter end where his cunning, super human abilities, and sharp shooting are used to their full potential. Vash doesn’t take insults or threats to himself very seriously for the most part, so typically it has to be a serious threat to his or someone’s life for him to get so angry.
The reason for this is his strong worldview that the ticket to the future is always blank. A worldview he got from his adoptive mother; Rem. No matter what mistakes people have made as long as people keep living you never know where life will take you. Due to this Vash has it in his mind that no one, for any reason, has the right to take the life of another. That is why he’s so forgiving to people, willing to forgive, but also not stupid. He’ll give someone a chance to change, but also won’t leave himself open for an attack.
While this is the main focus that has driven his life for over a hundred years he at times can still struggle with it. Vash understands the passion behind revenge and has trouble stopped people for wanting to kill for revenge. Usually begging for the wronged to forgive instead of always bodily getting in the way. As seen when he allows a quick draw between two men over the murder of one’s parents or when Vash attempts to stop a father from killing the man who killed his daughter. Part of this steaming from the fact that Vash has harbored mixed feelings over what to do about his own brother who was the one responsible for causing Rem’s death. He honestly doesn’t know if he wants to kill him or not. Something he will only truly figure out once he sees his brother again in episode 26.
Vash adores Rem and her view. It was Rem’s dream for the people of the new world to find an Eden when they awoke. While that dream went array Vash does his best to make the humans on the planet Gunsmoke happy to one day make it into the world Rem dreamed it would be.
While Vash does care little about what people think of him he still would prefer people to like him. This is due to his dislike of being and feeling alone. He’s happier feeling the life of people around him. When he’s alone and it’s too quiet he usually starts falling into bad memories. He misses Rem even more during these moments, as he’s just a social guy who is more comfortable being in a room full of happy people.
Despite his great dislike of being alone, Vash still often puts himself in situations where he is alone. Drifting from town to town on his planet where there’s nothing but long stretches of empty desert between them. This is in part due to the fact that he is a wanted man and for Vash he’d rather be alone then possibly put someone’s life at risk. Added to this fact that recently his brother has been trying to make his life into a living hell so that the people around him and close to him have been dying makes it even harder for him. It’s a choice between being alone and knowing his friends are safe or risking their safety and staying within their company. In the end Vash will always choose the safety and happiness of others over his own.
For a real quick summary Vash is a complex man who likes to look like a simpleton on the outside. Does anything he can to make life better for people even if it’s at his own expense. Hates seeing people die and kill each other so he’ll do all he can to stop it from happening. Again at his own expensive. Yet, he’s a firm believer that because no one knows what the future will bring that living is the most important thing someone can do. To live each day to the fullest, so even if life gets you down to get back up and keep living.

[Vash once settled a bit more in this strange new world was curious about this new power of his. He had no qualms about losing the power he had before. In fact he was almost glad it was gone. Instead of a power that could destroy it had been replaced with the power to make things grow.
He turns his bracelet on excitedly once he realizes that yes; this magic does really work.] Hey! This being able to make flowers grow is really awesome! I was hoping someone here knows where I could find some more seeds! Does anyone have any geranium seeds? The red kind! [To see a real geranium. He wouldn’t have thought it was possible for many more years back home.]
Heyyyyyyy! That’s an idea! We’re suppose to bring color to this place right? Has anyone started a flower garden yet? They’re full of color! At least I’m pretty sure they are. I’m going to start a flower garden! So I’m going to need lots of seeds! Red, blue, purple, yellow, but especially red! All kinds of flowers and plants!
Oh! Trees too! Apple trees! Hm, but that may be a little harder to grow. Does anyone have an apple tree already? I’m actually pretty hungry. Maybe I should grow some vegetables in this garden too!
Hahahaha! I almost forgot! I’m Vash. If you have any seeds to spare I’ll be happy to come to you to pick them up! Just look for the dashing man in the red coat.
[Then he waits. Hardly able to contain his excitement as he waits for a response.]

[Vash cautiously opened his eyes. They still hurt slightly from the flash of light that had blinded him for a moment. Something he was use to from living on a desert planet for so long, but something about this felt different. One jarring difference was the weight of Wolfwood’s cross was missing from his back. Milly had trusted him with the last memento they had of the priest and he wasn’t going to lose it right before he came face to face with Knives.
He arms were already reaching around for it as he opened his eyes and – well, this certainly was not the room he had expected to end up in. Was this some sort of trick of his brother’s? Vash jumps to his feet and tries to walk towards the door only to find that he couldn’t leave the circle he found himself in.
There isn’t much time to think this strange inability to move as a woman enters the room.] Who are you? [Vash tries to focus on her face, having a suburb memory for faces, but finds it a bit disturbing that he can’t seem to focus on her face. It was if it was always changing so he eyes couldn’t focus on it.
Yet, he felt no danger from her as he took the letter she offered. Reading it several times over. Gods? Really? It was hard to believe; yet he had no better explanation as to what and how he had gotten here. He listens carefully as the maid explains to him where he should go to find lodging and how to use his bracelet. Then he reads the entries that pop up from it.
Vash tries to question the maid a bit more, but she has no other information for him. A test now proves that he can now leave the circle in the room. He reads over all the information he has available to him once more with a sigh. Well, standing around in this room wasn’t going to get him anywhere. Nothing more to gain from the strange woman with him he smiles at her and says he’ll see her around. Not sure if he really would or not. Even if he did she would be the first person he didn’t think he could recognize again.
He grips the handle of the door without fear and steps into the new world he was going to have to temporarily call home.]
