[Vash can be found today fairly deep in the woods. He went out that far in order to not be disturbed, but like that really matters in a place like Luceti. He’s rigged up a target on a rope that he’s run through several of the branches so that he can stand at the far end and yank on the rope and have the target swing down.

He stands with his left hand holding the rope; body relaxed. Then he pulls hard on it, drawing his gun from its holster and fires four rapid shots at the swinging target. He stands and watches the target sway back and forth for a minute. He doesn’t look very pleased before walking over to it and getting a closer look.

All four shots hit the target, each fairly close to the center. The closest is a thumb's length away, but he still doesn't look very happy.] Damn… it’s not good enough.

No! It's a good gun, a very good gun! [Of course the fact that he's protecting people with it isn't making the man who gave it to him very happy.]

Then it's only temporary. A gun is designed to be a weapon. You kill with it, or you're killed because of it. It's the natural order of things.

No. No one has the right to take another life. They can choose not to kill with a gun. Weapons can be used to protect; not destroy.

I'm not saying people have the right to do it. But it happens every time. If you aren't willing to see that much, then you're deluding yourself.

No... I realize it happens, but for as long as I can I'll try to stop it. Until people can live their lives without fear of war and violence. [Smiles and shuts his eyes] After all... when we were born none of us were made to hurt others.

[There's a long pause while he digests Vash's speech. This guy was either brilliant or completely stupid. It's a thin line.] You... really believe that, don't you?

[We'll he didn't think that last line up, but he sure as hell believes it.] I do.

[Frowns] I've... heard that. I'll be careful.

Make sure you do. There's a demon who hangs out in this forest particularly. You might want to take your target practice to the barracks.

[He's going to raise an eyebrow at that face, but sets it aside.] I don't see why you didn't just use the barracks in the first place. Isn't that what they're there for?

I didn't know there was a target range there. [And part he wanted to be alone and make a moving target.]

And now you know. There's less of a chance you'll accidentally kill something if you're in a more controlled environment.

Well... I'm actually pretty careful. I won't kill anything.

You say that now, but aren't you the one who said missing as far as you just did could cost someone a life?

It could. That's why I practice. I won't shoot if it could kill.
