Hey everyone! I hope everyone is settling in alright! I know there's a lot to get use to right now. Time traveling and such, but I just found out it's Law's birthday tomorrow! Think we should do something to make it special even if we are back in time at the moment. Like a surprise birthday dinner!

Now, we don't exactly have a lot of food here, but if people would like to come over for dinner and bring a little something to share I'm sure we could have a good time! I'll even trade... ah... something... for it? [He laughs.] Although I have to admit, I'm not very skilled past manual labor, but I'll sure try if you could help out!

For example, is anyone a really good baker? Law, can't have gluten and I have no idea how to avoid the stuff. But I think you can? Or... maybe not? Anyway! Suggestions for a birthday cake of some sort would be greatly appreciated!

What's 'gluten'?

I'm not completely sure, just that it's in bread.

[Oh God, what a horrific thing to not be able to eat.]

It's going to be hard to make a cake without flour...

Yeah, I think so? I know there's way to avoid it in the future, but with the limited supplies in town I'm not sure we can. But that's alright! Now it's been suggested about making a mousse instead!

Gluten-free... might be a bit tricky given the ingredients around here, but I might be able to make something. At the very least I can try making a fruit mousse or something for dessert.

Heyyyyyyyyyy! [The hey is spoken as he reaches to grab at a pen.] Fruit mousse sounds like a pretty good back up idea! If not a first idea! If I can help anyway let me know!

I brought some oranges and lemons with me so I'll have fruit to work with. I should be able to get some milk from some of the people running the farms, maybe even cream. I'll also need eggs and sugar, and a whisk.

The hardest part will be whisking everything by hand. Keeping the mousse cold too, but if I can get some bags or a cooler, I can keep it in the river. Or if someone with ice magic wants to lend a hand.

[The paper gets tapped once or twice before he answers.] With the power cap we may have some trouble with ice magic, but I'm sure I could find a bag or something to keep it cool. I'll try to find some of the supplies for you!

That would be appreciated, thank you. What time are you planning the party? Just so I can budget out time to prepare everything. I'll see if I can hook a fish from the river too if I'm going to be by it anyway.

Oh. Hmm, maybe towards the evening? Like four or five? In time for dinner!

Sounds great. That should be a perfect amount of time to get everything ready. Where's the party at?

[This doesn't come from the journal, but from over Vash's shoulder. Itachi's is his usual stoic self, but there's a determined gleam in blind eyes. His pacifism apparently doesn't extend to aquatic life his husband finds tasty.]

Oh! [Vash leans back to look at Itachi without turning around.] That's probably good idea! [Not that he would ever offer to join. He had an issue with what happened with the bait and the fish.] Maybe Sheena would like to help! [He will, however, invite other people along.]

No. I must do this alone.

[Because fishing is serious business and only he's allowed to catch the best ones for Law.]

[Vash smiles warmly and shrugs even though Itachi can't see the motion.] Alright then! Just bring your journal in case you need help carting the catch back or something! Also, maybe gloves, the water is starting to get colder now!

I can bake, but, um... what's gluten? I've never heard of that before. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that the stuff I make doesn't have that in it, since I've never even heard of it.

It's something that's found in baked goods. I think it might be in the flour? Or the carbs? I don't really know how it works because I've never had to worry about avoiding the stuff before.

Something in the flour? But the only thing in flour is wheat... unless there's something else that I don't know about.

Maybe in the wheat? I dunno. It's like tiny little particles. Hard to pick out I think. I just know Law can't eat most bread because of it.

Oh. I'm not sure how you would make bread without using wheat, though. I guess maybe if you could find something else to make flour out of, but I'm not sure what that would be. I've never heard of bread that was made out of anything else.

Me either. Gina mentioned knowing how to make a mousse. So we're thinking of making that now instead of a cake just to be on the safe side. Wouldn't want to make someone sick on their birthday after all!
