[The other day Vash had been horrified to find every time he tried to leave the apartment he found his traditional jacket missing and a horrible sweater, pants, hat, make-up, and accessory in its place. Of course, like most, he first tried to rip it off, but of course that failed and now he's decided to just make the best of things.

So he's walking around town, checking out the Halloween decorations, with donuts shoved onto his new 'claw' trying to make the best of the situation. Eventually he takes out his journal.]

So... I'm assuming the forced costume part isn't a normal part of Halloween, is it? The decorations are kinda cute. Well, I guess if you like bats and spiders. The happy-looking pumpkin faces are cute, though. [A pause as he thinks it over.] So, what exactly is this holiday supposed to be about? [No really, he's confused. There's so many cute things mixed in with scary things he's not sure what to think about it.] Something about the dead coming back, so we get candy? How does that exact--[There's a sharp, and rather frightened gasp, as Vash suddenly drops his book and it slams shut.]

What is it that you thought you saw to warrant such a reaction? [There was no mistaking the fear in that gasp.]

It's nothing, my eyes were playing tricks on me is all. [You know, just the bright light and images that his arm was transforming into a weapon that could destroy all of Luceti is no big deal at all!]

[Maybe if she saw him in person, she could see through that lie... but with just his voice, it's beyond her.] ...it is odd that you mention such an occurrence. My own eyes have done such a thing today as well.

They did? You can still see though the blindfold?

Hm. I suppose to say my eyes played the trick would be inaccurate. Rather, I sensed something nearby that could not possibly have been there.

Oh, I see. Was it only there for a second or two?

Yes. The moment I tried to get a better look, it was gone. It is unusual for me to see things like that in such a manner. Had it been a misplaced object or something non-living, I don't think it would have surprised me as much.

Mmmhmm... [He's quiet a moment thinking about it.] Other people seem to be seeing things too.

Other people as well? [This doesn't sit well with her. "Seeing things" sounds far too similar to her illusions.]

I suppose the change in the village scenery might provoke one's eye to see that which is not there... although for myself, that provides very little explanation. I can't see the change in the village at all.

I hope so, I hope it's just the scenery and not the Malnosso doing something to us.

I had figured these costumes were the current experiment. Although I suppose there's no rule saying they can't do more than one at a time...

I'd be nice if there was a rule like that.

True. I suppose, as our captors, there is no reason for them to limit themselves.

They need to learn some self control.

[A pause. A long pause. Nothing appears to have happened, as she isn't reacting in the little journal-image at all. After a few moments, she picks up the journal and angles it to be look behind her. Nothing is there.]

...if you do not mind the sudden strange question, there is something I would just like to verify. Is there a person standing behind me right now?

No, there's no one. [Vash thinks he knows what's going on.] I think you might be seeing things. I've been seeing things off and on all day.

[Sets the journal down proper.] I suppose that settles whether or not this is in fact an experiment. My eyes have never played a trick such as this before. Although I am surprised how these scientists know how to affect my particular form of vision is such a way.

As much as I hate to do it, you have to credit the Malnosso with at least one thing... they're smart and know their "subjects".

That must be true. Although I can't help but wonder why, if they were so aware of what I am, I was placed here at all. That is, unless confining a monster to the village was their intention.

You'd be surprised. Not everyone here is nice. There are plenty of people here who'd I consider to be a monster easily over you.

Hm. That is a good point as well. Still, it does seem an odd coincidence that of all the creatures that existed in my previous world, I was brought here.

Although I suppose the same could be said for anyone from any world, couldn't it?

Yeah, I think we all question why us over others every now and then. I guess the Malnosso don't really have control over who comes here, but who knows if that's really true or not.

Is that so? If it is true, it only makes the coincidence that much more interesting.

Yeah, it's all strange those who show up here and those that don't. Not to mention those who go home and who don't.

Perhaps it really is merely a string of coincidences, then? Stranger things have happened before. Either that or some higher power is behind it all.
