[Vash is a man on a mission! After talking to Katara a bit he’s gotten the itch to paint his room. He’s never really stayed in one place long enough to think about decorating a room and he can’t quite settle on a color. So for a good hour he can be found walking back and forth between the shop and his room carrying cans of paint back and forth. Then he starts to paint. He starts with red, but it’s just too much red so he adds a bit of blue. After that he tries yellow. Next he adds some green around the bottom of the wall. He likes the green - for awhile, then tries orange. Then a bit of purple.

At last he finally get gets the idea to paint the sky on his ceiling - complete with fluffy white clouds that don’t really look anything like clouds because he has no real art skill. Time to call for an expert!]

Hey Katara! How are you at painting clouds?

[The added shortly after]

You too Miyabi! I bet you could paint some good clouds!

[Katara shakes her head.] Not everyone in our world is a bender. Most people aren't. Sokka doesn't use the elements to fight.

How do you get to be a bender? Just born with it?

[markofthebrave]

You're born with the ability, but you have to train with it if you want to be any good. A year ago, I could barely pull a fish out of water! But then we found Aang and traveled to the North Pole, and I got to train under a master.

[goldenglasses]

Aang... he's the Avatar right?

[markofthebrave]

[An eager nod, a slightly wistful smile.] That's right. Did Sokka or Toph tell you about him?

[goldenglasses]

Yeah, a little bit - that you guys took down the fire king I think.

[markofthebrave]

That's what I heard. [Pause.] The rest of them came from after that battle -- I come from a few months earlier. But I've always believed that Aang would save the world -- and I'm so glad he did.

[goldenglasses]

Oh yeah - the time here is really strange. Me and a friend from my world come from about the same time... but she's been here a whole year already.

[markofthebrave]

Really? This place... [She HATES it.]

Who's your friend?

[goldenglasses]

Her name is Meryl Stryfe she works at Good Spirits.

[markofthebrave]

Oh. I don't think I've been there yet. I'll look for her when I do!

[And now we are on to one of her new favorite topics.] What's your world like?

[goldenglasses]

Oh - Gunsmoke? It’s actually a desert planet. Very hot and dry.

[markofthebrave]

Eeesh, a desert. [She makes a face.] I wouldn't do very well there. We grew up at the South Pole, so the first time we were in a desert it was -- a lot to take in. Does this mean you've never seen the ocean before?

[goldenglasses]

Yeah, I suppose a desert isn't the best place for a waterbender. Not much water there.

Nope, I heard it's really big though!

[markofthebrave]

Yeah, it's pretty big. Where I grew up... it was right by the ocean. It's hard to imagine a world make up entirely of desert. What was it like?

[goldenglasses]

Hot, dry, and empty. I guess you could call it an ocean of sand?

[markofthebrave]

Luceti's got to be kid of weird for you then, huh? I mean weirder. Because of all the trees and the rivers and all..

[goldenglasses]

And the snow! But I really like it! I can't wait for spring to see what kind of flowers are here! If not for the experiments this place would be really great!

[markofthebrave]

It is nice to be in a place with so many flowers. We didn't have many back home either. Well, where I'm from, anyway. Even though it's winter here, it's still not as bad as winter in the South Pole.

[She's just -- not going to talk about the experiments right now if she can help it.]

[goldenglasses]

South pole... [Give him a minute as he pulls up some Earth information he hasn't thought about in awhile] So it was basically winter there all year right?

[markofthebrave]

[Shrug] Pretty much. We do have seasons, but they're marked more by changes with the sun than changes with the weather.

[goldenglasses]

I see! So this weather is probably nothing for you.
