[On the morning of the fourth, Vash awoke, but it was different from any other time he had ever woken up before. Instead of feeling hope and excitement for a new day, he could only feel anger and despair. The humans. They were everywhere. There weren’t any other Plants for them to suck the life away from, but they were still so wasteful.

He spent most of the day in his room at the apartment he shared with Meryl and Wolfwood. He could hear them moving around outside his door and he found himself growing more and more resentful of them as time went on. He was slowly forgetting why he use to enjoy hearing the sounds of their voices; why even he chose to live here with them. Finally after he listened and was sure he heard that they had left for the day he started packing. After everything was packed away he picked up his journal and flipped it open. His voice lacks any of the friendly and open manner it once held; now it just sounds angry and aggressive.]

Legato. I understand now. Follow the river to the western lake and meet me there. We’ll start the cleansing here that Knives started back home. He was right, you humans are a parasite, festering and infecting anything you can get your hands on. With you serving me, we will find a way to permanently destroy the humans here so they won’t be back in a week.

You pitiful humans enjoy the little time you have left.

And what of the other manner of creatures that live as humans live? That will continue to live as the humans have lived?

If they live like humans than they are no better.

And the humans that have lived at peace with nature, will they be murdered by you as well?

I just have to make the smallest sacrifice that I can at the time, there are so few humans that do that it's not worth leaving he ones who destroy it.

And you're completely sure that those humans are the minority? The humans here may have pissed you off somehow, but there could be thousands of others that live 'properly' elsewhere.

I use to. I use to try very hard to teach them a new way and all I did was to get shot and beat for my efforts. I was a fool to believe that they could ever change.

I lived among them, but I did not live the same wasteful lifestyle that they did.

I have been mocked and told my ideas of peace were foolhardy. You humans are all the same. Complain when I try to spread the ideas of peace and then cry out when you get what you really deserve.

... And who are you to complain about that? You're agreeing with those humans now, aren't you? Casting aside your ideas of peace for slaughter.

I'm not. I'm merely stating a fact. I tried to teach peace and was mocked that it could never be. Violence is the only answer to problems. Now that I agree with violence you all come crying going: No! Peace is the real answer!

It's you that need to stop complaining and make up your mind.

... There are more choices to be had than 'absolute peace' or 'complete slaughter'... Some of us come from worlds where living without any violence at all would mean welcoming death with open arms.

Why? Because there is an opposing force that would kill you? Because humans are fighting over petty things like who owns the land?

Both, or neither. It varies greatly. In this case, I suppose you would be the opposing force. Even those humans that have chosen peace are going to die now.

Then it's just proof again that there can be no peace with the humans. All they are interested in is taking and killing to get what they want. It's what they are born to do. You see, once they are all gone, then there can be peace. We didn't start this fight, ~~[Only Knives totally kinda did in the anime, shhh!]~~ but to protect ourselves and the world we will end the humans that can't stop destroying - even themselves.

Really, I'm just hurrying the process along. I've tried to stop so many of you from killing each other. What time I have wasted.

Killing so that they may live, killing so that others may live, killing so that there can finally be peace... You keep telling me this is all about the humans, about their faults, but nothing you say sounds any different at all from what you say about them, no matter who started this.

... In fact, you sound almost painfully human.

But it does matter, you only say that because you're trying to cling to life.

I do not need to argue with someone who will not listen and can't see humans off their high pedestal. It just wastes time and energy. Enjoy what time you have left. [Vash shuts the journal.]
